I am thrilled to say that I will have chickens soon! I have always wanted to keep them but due to neighborhood covenants over the last 30 years it just hasn't been possible. Now that I have all this property, it is finally time to build the coop and get this operation going.
Normally we are cold around here in February with a lot of great 70 degree days. For Louisiana, snow in winter is basically unheard of but this year we had "sneaux" 4 weeks in a row during February and March. Not a 36 inch dumping like I'm used to back east in Northern Virginia where I raised my kids, but when you have no idea how to drive in it, it's a good thing the school system around here closed up shop each of the four times it snowed more than 1/2 inch. Frankly, I laughed to myself over all the hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth the poor weathermen were going through. And I admit, it was nice to have a change of season around here besides the 2 weeks of Spring or Fall we usually have with 11 months of heat and humidity. It did take it's toll on my wanting to dive right into a building project. This chick is an instant gratification girl!

The first day the basic frame is up. Working in beautiful weather helped! |
It sure will be nice to have a couple of full days to get this project finished. I am frothing at the bit!

I'm sure you have eggs now. Loved seeing your chicken coop in progress.
I'm glad I'm not alone in loving chickens.
